The Commercial Property Underwriter is responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and underwriting commercial property insurance risks. This role ensures that all submissions comply with the company's underwriting guidelines while maintaining portfolio profitability and delivering appropriate insurance solutions to clients.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Property Underwriting, Commercial Underwriting, or a similar insurance role.
  • Strong understanding of commercial property insurance principles and underwriting practices.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment, policy wording, pricing methodologies, and reinsurance concepts.Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.

Prefer:

  • Professional insurance certifications
  • Experience underwriting Property All Risks (PAR), Industrial All Risks (IAR), Fire Insurance, or Engineering-related risks.
  • Familiarity with insurance regulations and risk management frameworks.

Job Accountabilities - Key Accountabilities

  • Review and assess commercial property insurance submissions, including office buildings, shopping centers, hotels, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and other commercial properties.
  • Analyze risk exposures based on factors such as location, construction type, occupancy, insured values, loss history, and risk controls.
  • Determine appropriate pricing, coverage terms, conditions, deductibles, and policy limits.
  • Review risk survey reports and provide recommendations for risk mitigation measures.
  • Make sound underwriting decisions within delegated authority limits.
  • Collaborate with brokers, agents, sales teams, and clients to assess insurance needs and provide underwriting support.
  • Deliver technical underwriting guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
